The Ultrastructural Study of Oat cell Carcinoma of the Lung

Abstract

|
Eight cases of oat-cell carcinoma of the lung were studied histochemically and- ultrastructurally. Neurosecretory-type cytoplasmic granules were found in six cases of oat-cell carcinoma, but were not numerous. The argyrophilic granules, however,were not simply identified histochemically and, the symptoms suggesting hormonal.aecretion were not recognized clinically. Both tumors, Carcinoid and oat-cell carcinoma, show the appearance-of neurosecretory-type granules in their cytoplasm which are considered as a lowgrade malignant. in the former and a highly malignant variant. in the latter arising from Kulchitsky-type cells of Ironchi.
